Creating a Better Workplace & World
From championing diversity and inclusion to leading sustainability and committing to social responsibility efforts, K2 women are making an impact far beyond our company.
Ana Paduan, Financial and Admin Co-ordinator
Ana, who is based in K2’s São Paulo office, was instrumental in the delivery of the São Paulo school project, overseeing the construction alongside her day job over the last two years.
Ana shared her views on the importance of organisations encouraging their employees to give back: “I think it’s really important for organisations to encourage employees to give back. It not only makes employees feel good and more engaged, but it also helps build a positive, supportive work culture. When we are involved in causes our colleagues care about, it boosts morale and can make them feel more connected to the company. Also, companies that focus on giving back tend to attract people who value those same things, which is great for recruitment and retention. It’s a win for the company, the employees, and the community.”
Asked about the proudest moment of her career at K2, Ana said: “Without a doubt, being one of the people leading on the project which saw us building a school in Brazil through the K2 Foundation was a huge milestone for me, and having the trust of my Director made all the difference in decision-making and the results we achieved.”

Joanie Cloete, Bespoke Relocation Manager
Alongside her role as Bespoke Relocation Manager in K2’s Cape Town office, Joanie is the regional Sustainability Champion for K2 Africa.
When asked for her thoughts on the role programmes like the Sustainability Champion initiative play in personal development, Joanie explained: “Being involved in K2’s Sustainability Champion initiative is a rewarding experience and plays many roles in personal development and growth. The initiative provides personal fulfilment, empowering members of the team to positively impact the environment and create a better world for all. Stronger leadership skills are developed by way of inspiring, motivating and empowering others towards more sustainable practices. Communication and problem-solving skills are also improved, and it pushes one to think more critically about innovative solutions. Of course, the Sustainability Champion initiative also plays a big role in feeling more confident about driving strategy and making sustainable choices in daily life.”
The advice she would offer to her younger self, starting her career? “Be your future-self’s best friend, you’ll thank yourself later. Every experience, whether positive or negative, is an opportunity for growth. Never stop learning and growing: the day you think you know it all, is the day you are old. Be your best most authentic self, be the owner of your reality, make a positive difference everywhere you go, and stay true to your values, regardless of the world around you.”
Shahida Hamid, Relocation Manager
Shahida Hamid is a Relocation Manager in K2’s Singapore office. Alongside this role, she is one of the Charity Champions for her region.
Shahida explains that her mother has been the most significant female role model in her life: “My mom has always been my role model. Her presence has developed me into what I am today. Ever since I was young, she has never failed to show me her strength in facing difficulties throughout our childhood. She cooked, cleaned, worked, and took care of us – 4 siblings while my dad was away working as ship engineer. We all grew up well and appreciate what has been instilled in us". Values that I learned and use to this day:
Respect – Respect ourselves and others.
Share and Give – Share our treasures and delicious food with others.
Endurance – Never give up when things are difficult. There will be a solution somewhere.
I have shared these values with the next generation by teaching them to my children.”
What made Shahida want to become a Charity Champion? “I joined the Charity Champions programme during my first year in K2. Being able to gather and share donations with those who need support has given me an enormous sense of fulfilment and peace. I am proud that K2 offers this initiative as part of our culture, and of the impact that we can have on our local community.”
Karen Ee, Relocation Manager
Karen, who works alongside Shahida in K2 Singapore as both Relocation Manager and Charity Champion, offered her thoughts on the simple steps that can be taken by everyone to get us closer to gender equality: “I think it’s important to remember that small, consistent actions can lead to big changes. Education plays a crucial role; we should encourage schools and workplaces to deliver education programmes that teach the value of respect, equality and fairness. We can show support by mentoring women and supporting their personal development. Using inclusive, neutral language is another simple but powerful way to promote gender equality.”
Sharing how she achieves work-life balance, Karen says: “Besides defining work hours, prioritizing key tasks and implementing other strategies to navigate equilibrium, for me practising self-care, is also important. I will make time to work out at the gym with my gym buddies (two of my colleagues) or at home with an exercise mat. My motto is ‘doing something is better than nothing’, be it five minutes or an hour-long workout. It helps to reduce stress, boost overall health and helps me to think clearly. Sometimes during my workout, I find a solution to challenging cases or even solve my daughter’s math question! Watching interior design on YouTube or going for long walks with my three dogs or listening to the ‘Spirited Away’ soundtrack with a glass of wine helps me to unwind and go to a chill level. And not forgetting sharing experiences with colleagues can provide insights and mutual support.”
