Conversations worth bringing home: K2 at WERC LATAM: Brazil 26

From AI and policy design to family well-being, our team reflects on a day of shared ideas and fresh perspectives in São Paulo.

There’s a lot to talk about in global mobility, and even more to learn when we get together.

On 16 September, Dora Sayegh and Diogo Portugal Bastos Pinto represented K2 at WERC LATAM: Brazil 26 in São Paulo. Joining clients, partners and colleagues from across the mobility community, they explored the challenges shaping global workforces and the opportunities to make relocation a better experience for everyone involved.

Shared challenges, fresh perspectives

One of the most valuable parts of an industry gathering is the opportunity to hear how others are approaching familiar challenges. For Dora and Diogo, the day offered space to exchange experiences, ask questions and consider different perspectives from across the LATAM mobility community.

Discussions covered AI, the future of work, intercultural readiness, mental health, and employee and family wellbeing. A recurring theme stood out: decisions about technology, efficiency and cost all have a human impact.

As Dora reflected:

“What I valued most was the chance to exchange ideas with people facing many of the same questions we are. Across conversations about AI, policy and cost, we kept coming back to employees and their families. Helping them feel supported and confident in a new environment is what makes this work so meaningful.”

Technology with a clear purpose

The discussions around AI and the future of work prompted reflection on where technology can make the greatest difference in mobility.

For K2, that starts with practical questions. Does a system make the next step easier to understand? Does it give a mobility team better visibility? Does it allow the people delivering a service to spend more time supporting employees and their families?

These questions inform the role of technology and user experience within K2 Group. Through K2 AlphaTech, we develop solutions around the realities of mobility delivery, helping simplify processes and support better decisions.

Our view is that the value of innovation should be felt by the people using it. Clearer information, easier access to support and less time spent navigating administration all contribute to a better relocation experience.

Helping the whole family feel ready

Employee and family wellbeing, mental health and intercultural readiness were among the subjects that resonated most strongly with our team.

A relocation brings changes to routines, relationships and familiar surroundings. An employee may be preparing for a demanding new role while their partner builds a new network and their children adjust to a different school. Each person can experience that transition differently.

For us, these discussions reinforced the importance of understanding individual circumstances early and maintaining support as needs change. Being ready to travel is one milestone. Feeling comfortable and confident in a new environment takes time.

Our relocation services reflect that broader journey, with support spanning preparation and orientation through to destination services and family settling in. Local knowledge, responsive guidance and a clear point of contact help people approach unfamiliar situations with greater confidence.

Making information easier to act on

The conversations about readiness also prompted a practical reflection for K2: how well do employees understand the support available to them?

A carefully designed programme needs clear communication to work effectively. People need to know what happens next, which decisions they need to make and where to turn with questions. That information needs to be accessible when it becomes relevant.

This is where Twelve Degrees’ communications expertise connects directly with the relocation experience. Helping organisations explain change and communicate with their people is an important part of making support feel understandable and accessible.

For mobility teams, that means considering how a policy is explained and experienced alongside what it contains. Clear language and thoughtful timing can help employees feel more prepared to take their next step.

Putting policy into practice

The day concluded with a collaborative policy-design exercise, challenging participants to balance business objectives, employee experience and cost-effectiveness in real-world scenarios.

It brought several of the day’s themes together. How can organisations provide meaningful support while maintaining financial discipline? Where is flexibility valuable? How can a policy accommodate different circumstances while remaining clear and manageable?

These questions connect closely with the work of K2 Indx, our advisory and assignment management specialists. Translating business priorities into practical mobility policies requires an understanding of organisational needs and the realities of delivery.

For Dora and Diogo, the exercise was an opportunity to explore those decisions with peers and consider different approaches to shared challenges.

Thank you to WERC and everyone who contributed their experiences and perspectives throughout the day. Our team left with fresh ideas to share across K2 and conversations to continue with the wider LATAM mobility community.
